Lockey Hill Violin, London, UK Late 18th Century

Lockey Hill was descended from one of the most famous violin making families in history. His grandson, William Ebsworth Hill would go on to found W.E. Hill & Sons, a violin making and dealing firm that would become a corner stone in the violin market for next 150 years!

This violin is a wonderful example on Lockey's work. It is built on an Amatese pattern of larger proportions, but with a more powerfully flat arch. It is suitable for all types of modern use and from a time when English makers were beginning to transition from Staineresque models into more Cremonese ones.
