Couturieux 15 ⅜" Viola, Mirecourt, France, 1845

A phenomenal 15 ⅜" French Viola by one of the Couturieux family of makers. They ran a small yet top quality workshop from 1830 to 1850.

This is a compact viola, but not without ample rib height and a powerfully flat arch, and is clearly inspired by an antiqued Vuillaume Strad Model. Amazing sounding concert instrument by French makers whom worked for J.B. Vuillaume and later setup in Mirecourt, France. This example has all of the aesthetic and sound qualities of a fine Vuillaume; power, quality, richness, response, modulation, packaged with the finest tonewood in a compact size. Very attractive price in comparison to a J.B. Vuillaume, and Rampal certificate.

LENGTH OF BACK: 39 cm or 15 3/8"

CERTIFICATE: Rampal
