A special cello bow in mint condition made by the preeminent bowmaker Charles Espey around 2010. At 80.5 Grams, this bow has with great strength in the stick, effortless tracking, and nuanced tone, capturing the best of the past two centuries of bow making.

About Charles:

Described as “the most important bow maker of his generation,” Mr. Espey is renowned in the music world not only for his craftsmanship, but for the host of world class bowmakers that have emerged from his tutelage. Charles Espey learned his craft with Herman Bischofberger and David Saunders in Seattle, then with Robert Shallock and Martin Devillers. He also worked with Stephane Thomachot. Awarded a VSA gold medal in the 1980's, and in 1993 he won the gold medal at the Kassel International competition. Espey, his colleagues, and protegés were a part of an important documentary film from 2019 directed by Ward Serrill called "The Bowmakers" which featured a journey from the workshops of five master bowmakers in the Pacific Northwest to the fascinating origin of the bow in France, and to Brazil, home of the imperiled tree from which the finest bows are made.
